I saw this meme late last year, and still see people making the claim that there weren’t any excess deaths in 2020, or that excess deaths reports for COVID were “stolen” from other categories like flu.
The above meme was simply wrong - The numbers they quoted for 2020 were missing the first two months of the year.
2020 had 500K excess deaths
As you can see, in addition to almost 350K COVID deaths, there were:
- 4K more flu/pnemonia deaths
- 40K more heart disease deaths
- 10K more stroke deaths
There are a hundred variations of this graph that compares the 5 year average deaths to 2020, showing a very clear spike in excess deaths.
